Description

The Maple Swamp conservation lands consist of 500 acres of upland property that are composed of 25 different parcels.

Located on the Service Road between exits 3 and 4, Maple Swamp's vast 500 acre property also has some of the most diverse topography on Cape Cod.

Reaching from 40 to 250 feet above sea level, Maple Swamp has spectacular views north across Cape Cod Bay to Provincetown and south to Vineyard Sound.

Located across Chase Road from the West Barnstable Conservation Area. There's over 40 miles of riding for people looking for an extended ride.

You will do some climbing here.

The area contains many old motorcycle trails that are not open to mountain bikes. Or to motorcycles. But they appear on the map so that you won't get lost.

The Trailfprks map above indicated these with broken lines.

Also on the Trailforks map are the trails that CC NEMBA created behind the Oak Ridge School for the Town's after school mountain programs.

The best access is from the large parking lot on Service Road.

Vegetation on the property includes oaks, pines, holly, hickory and maple trees.

Note: The Cape Cod Chapter of NEMBA is working closely with the town to expand mountain bike access to the single track trails. Please respect any signage stating \"No Bikes\"

CC NEMBA recently installed a beautiful deck at Maple Swamp's highpoint, Sam Nye Mountain. The bike trails leading to it have also been completed.

SE MA NEMBA Armoring Project at F. Gilbert Hills State Forest

Looking for something to do this Thursday/Friday 5/27-28 from 9:00 - 4:30 or for some part of that time.

We're looking for a few volunteer laborers to join the DCR in armoring a section of trail near High Rock in F Gilbert Hills.

This is a project that was started in 2019 and was going to continue in spring of 2020 but then the pandemic hit and all trail work was put on hold.

This section of trail may become a model for future trail work in the forest.

Since we are working with the DCR crew the work is being performed during work hours.

Even if you can only come for a few hours please let us know.  We have several slots available on bth days

Please feel free to forward to anyone you think may be interested.

Since this was planned before recent mask relaxing guidelines, we will need folks to sign up for the slots so please don't just show up.  This will also help us plan.

Contact me, Paul Simpson    or Dave Riding dvriding@gmail.com to register or for more infprmation.

Sign NEMBA's once a year liability waiver ahead of time if you haven't already done so.

Please Let us know.

Thanks,

SE MA NEMBA Cutler Park Bridge Work

Date

5/2/21 9:00am

SE MA NEMBA Bridge Repair at Cutler Park

Do you love Cutler Park?

Would you be willing and able to help move the decking to and from two bridges, with us? And nail down a nice new deck?

Are you good with a hammer, a crowbar?

You'll like this one.

These bridges are just an accident waiting to happen. If you've ridden here lately you know what I mean.

This coming Sunday morning, May 2, we will be redecking the two smaller bridges in Cutler Park.

The decking is really rotted but the stringers and footings are solid. We should be able to ‘bang out’ both quickly.

If we start at 9, we should be done by 12 at the latest! Meeting on the Blue Heron Trail, at the west end of the long bridge to Powell’s Island, where the lumber will be staged.

Ride or walk out from Kendrick street or Great Plain Ave.

There are a limited number of spots so email or text me to let me know you’ll be there! Or, contact me if you have any questions.

We ESPECIALLY need some young backs and energy to help move the new planks in and the old ones out!

Be sure to sign NEMBA's annual waiver if you haven't already done so.
