SE MA NEMBA Thanksgiving Ride

Event Date

11/25/21 (All day)

Borderland Thanksgiving Day Ride

Description: Burn off some calories before you fill up on stuffing! Meet at the Borderland Stae Park visitors center lot located at 282 Massapoag Ave in N. Easton.

This will be an intermediate-advanced tech ride at an advanced beginner pace. So we'll ride a lot of tech at a reasonable pace.

We'll likely do about 8 miles. So you'll have an empty tank before you fill it with turkey.

The ride will start at 8:30.  But be there by 8:15 so that we can have a brief rider's meeting and get going at 8:30.

Please sign NEMBA's Annual Waiver which covers you for all ride and trail care events if you haven't already done so.

Contact me, John Refford if you have any questions.

Great Neck Bog Bridge Build

Tuesday, November 16, 2021

Bridging a Gap On The South Shore

On Sunday 11/7/21 SE Mass and Cape Cod NEMBA built a 200’ bog bridge at the Great Neck Conservation Area in Wareham MA. The property is owned by Wildlands Trust. The two chapters had been talking with Wildlands about building a bridge over a perpetually muddy area for more than a year. But like so many things, Covid-19 threw a monkey wrench into the works.

This fall, Ethan Nardone, a prospective Eagle Scout candidate was looking for a project to complete before he reached his 18th birthday.

Things dovetailed from there. SE MASS and CC NEMBA donated the money necessary to purchase the building materials and the project was on.

Over 40 volunteers, from the two NEMBA chapters, Wildlands Trust staff, Ethan’s friends and family and the mountain bike club from the nearby Taybor Academy constructed the bridge. Amazingly in just under two hours.

Great Neck is a great place to ride, and if you look at Trailforks for Wareham you’ll see that it is an integral part of the town's trail system.

It should be noted that this is the first joint project of Wildlands Trust and NEMBA. WIldlands owns over 40 properties in SE MASS, many of which have extensive trail systems.

Look for more joint projects in the future. Read more about [node:title]

SE & CC NEMBA Wareham Trail Work

11/7/21 8:00am

Cape Cod & SE MA NEMBA Bridge Build

My name is Ethan Nardone. For my Eagle Scout Project I will be constructng bog bridges at the Great Neck Conservation Area in Wareham.

Great Neck is a Wildlands Trust property.

By looking at this Trailfoks map you can see that Great Neck is in the center of a lot of riding. (And many more nearby trails need to be added to the map.)

The project will involve the construction of approximately 24 10 ft bog board bridges to allow bikes to be ridden on the trail without causing damage when the trail is muddy.

Time: From 8:00am to 12:00pm, this is just a preliminary estimate however.

Meeting Location: 34 Crooked River Road, Wareham

I'll need as many people as I can get because the more bridges that we can build at once the better.

Bring: A battery powered drill if you have one. But otherwise a good set of work gloves and sturdy shoes or boots.

You don't have to be a NEMBA member to join in.

But everyone must have signed NEMBA's Annual Waiver if they haven't already dome so.

SE MA NEMBA Holiday Toy Drive

12/12/21 9:00am

Southeast Mass NEMBA Holiday Toy Drive

Join SE MA NEMBA in helping to make disadvantaged kids holiday season better.

We'll be running out Annual Toy Drive at Blue Hills Reservation on Sunday 12/12 from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM.

Meet at the Houghton's Pond Parking lot. 821 Hillside St, Milton MA.

Bring one or more unwrapped toys. And remember, toys for teens are always in short supply.

We'll collect the toys at the Bonfire.

Where we'll also have hot cider, coffee and snacks.

There will be led rides for all levels, as well as ungiuded rides for those who know their way around.

There will be more smiles on these rides than miles.

But not as many smiles as there will be on kid's faces during the holiday season.

Be there or be Scrooge!

You don't have to be a NEMBA member to donate toys. But everone who ride needs to sign our annual waiver if they haven't already done so.
