Wachusett NEMBA Trail Day @ Trout Brook

Date

11/13/21 9:00am

Holden Trail Day

Trout Brook Reservation

Saturday November 13th

9:00 Am - 1:00 Pm

Flooding has made Trout Brook's (blue) Bob Elms Trail unusable for years. Wachusett NEMBA has gained permission from the Town of Holden to make the Bob Elms trail useable for everyone. This year we will reroute the trail around the muddiest sections and next year we plan to build a bridge over Ball Brook.

A trail work day is planned for Saturday, November 13th from 9-1pm with a ride around Trout Brook for anyone who can stay afterwards. The goals are to:

  1. Turn a path that people have already begun to use into a permanent route for the Bob Elms trail. This will involve raking, pruning, moving rocks, and building some short bog bridges.
  2. Closing down the old section of Bob Elms by blocking it with natural barriers and removing rickety structures people have placed over the wettest section.

We’d love your help returning the Bob Elms trail to a functional state so that riders and others can enjoy it. If we need more tools we'll put the word out, but for now plan to being a pair of work gloves. Parking will be on the North St lot. This is a small lot so if you can carpool with others that would be great. Hope to see you there!

Description

The Wayne F. MacAllum Wildlife Management Area in Westborough is a 900 acre property in the town of Westborough.

There are about 18 miles of trails there.

Unusual for this area the trails are mostly flat and relatively rock free. Which makes it a perfect place for family rides or to introduce newer riders to the sport.

In the winter it's a great place to corss country ski.

Many of the trails offer scenic views of lakes and fields. While others dive deep into the woods.

A few trails, notably the ones surrounding the feed lots get overgrown by mid summer.

During Massachusett hunting season the the WMA sees a lot of hunters.

It shoud be noted that Massachusetts does not allow hunting on Sundays.

You'll spend a lot of time exploring MacAllum's mellow trails. And you will be back.

Description

Cormier Woods: Taken from the Trustees Page.

Cormier Woods lies within the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, a designated area extending from Worcester to Providence that celebrates the historical and cultural importance of the river, the birthplace of America’s Industrial Revolution. Easy-to-moderate intensity trails wind through open meadow and along stone walls, opening up a quintessential 1800s New England agricultural landscape and small-scale farmstead, replete with an historic house, barn, and a blueberry patch that ripens in late summer.

Cormier Woods abuts the Mendon Town Forest. The trails here offer a break from the more technically difficult Town Forest trails. Read more about [node:title]
